Cabinets and counters

New faces or new boxes

If the boxes are sound and the layout works, refacing is the shortest way to a new kitchen. If not, new cabinets and new counters go in together.

Counters are templated after the cabinets are in, so the week they're made is a week without a countertop. We plan for it.

What this includes

  • Refacing: new doors and drawer fronts on the boxes you have

  • New cabinets: stock, semi-custom or custom, delivered and set

  • Counters in laminate, butcher block or quartz, templated on site

  • Hardware and soft-close hinges chosen with the doors

The price

What moves the price

The cabinet line and the counter material do most of it.

  • Refacing or new

Refacing keeps your boxes. New cabinets also fix a layout that doesn't work.

  • The cabinet line

Stock, semi-custom and custom differ in sizes, finishes and wait.

  • The counter

Laminate, butcher block and quartz each have their own price per foot.

  • Edges and cutouts

A sink cutout, a cooktop and a waterfall edge each add labor.

  • An island

It adds cabinets, a counter, and often power and a place to plumb.

  • Hardware

Pulls and soft-close hinges add up across thirty doors and drawers.

The schedule

How cabinets and counters go

Two orders, two waits.

  1. 01
    After you sign

    Step 1: Order

Cabinets first, counters after they're set and measured.

  2. 02
    Install

    Step 2: Cabinets in

Boxes hung level, doors fitted, pulls set.

  3. 03
    The wait

    Step 3: Template

We measure the counter on the installed cabinets.

  4. 04
    Finish

    Step 4: Counters set

The new counter goes in, then the sink, faucet and backsplash.

Permits

Permits for cabinets

Cabinets and counters don't need a permit on their own. Moving the sink or the range to fit a new layout does, and that goes on the work order.

Questions

Cabinet and counter questions

Can my cabinets be refaced?

If the boxes are solid and the layout works, yes. We check at the visit.

How long do counters take?

Quartz and stone are cut after we template, so expect a wait between the cabinets going in and the counters being set.

Can I pick my own slab?

Yes. We'll go with you to the stone yard if you like.

Do you sell cabinets?

We order them for you and put the price on the work order. We don't hold stock.

Ready to price cabinets?

Text a photo of the kitchen, or ask for a visit.
