Kitchens
A kitchen, on one of three rungs
Most kitchens we do are a Refresh, an Update or a Rebuild. The rung decides how much comes out and how long the room is torn up.
Pick the rung that matches how far you want to go. If the room says something different, we tell you at the visit.
What a kitchen job includes
A work order with every line priced
Cabinets, counters and flooring chosen with samples in your hand
A drawing of the new layout when walls or the sink move
A project lead on site every working day

The price
What moves the price of a kitchen
Six things, in the order they usually matter.
Size
Cabinets and counters are priced by the foot, so a bigger room costs more in the same finishes.
Layout
Moving the sink, the range or a wall adds plumbing, gas, wiring and framing.
Your choices
Stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets can sit several times apart for the same wall.
Behind the walls
Old wiring or a notched joist shows up once the room is open. We price it in writing when it does.
House age
Houses built before 1978 add extra setup and cleanup to every job that disturbs old paint.
Permits
Moving walls, plumbing, gas or wiring needs a permit, and the fee goes on the work order at cost.
The schedule
How a kitchen goes
The order is the same on every rung. The weeks are not.
- 01After you sign
Step 1: Order
Cabinets and counters take weeks to arrive. Demolition waits until they are close.
- 02Start
Step 2: Demolition and rough-in
The old kitchen comes out in a day or two. Any plumbing, gas and wiring moves happen next.
- 03Middle
Step 3: Install
Cabinets, then templated counters, then floor, backsplash and lights.
- 04End
Step 4: Finish
Paint, hardware, the last fixtures and a walkthrough with a short list.
Permits
Who pulls the permit
A Refresh usually needs none. A Rebuild always does. We pull it through the City of Columbus Building and Zoning Services or your own city or township, and the licensed trades on the job put their names on their part of it.
Questions
Kitchen questions
How long is my kitchen out of use?
In a Refresh you cook around the work for a few weeks. In an Update the kitchen is down for several. In a Rebuild it is down for most of the job. We set up a sink and a spot for a microwave and a hot plate first.
Can I keep my appliances?
Yes, if they fit the new layout. We measure them at the visit. Appliances you buy yourself are not in the rung prices.
Do you take out walls?
Yes, in a Rebuild. A wall that holds up the floor above needs a beam, and sometimes an engineer's letter, which goes on the work order at cost.
Can we do the kitchen and a bath together?
Yes. One work order, two sets of lines, and one project lead.
